Dressed for Success
Dear Alice,
I have an interview with a company and cannot decide if I should wear my new jeans and button-down
or some khakis, dress shirt, and tie. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Dressed for Success
Dear Dressed for Success,
The most appropriate attire for a job interview is a business suit or khakis,
dress shirt, and tie. If you get to the interview and feel overdressed, that is much better than feeling underdressed. You
would never want to wear jeans to a job interview.
Good luck!

Do I need a resume?
Dear Alice,
Is it really that important to have a resume?
Sincerely,
Amanda
Dear Amanda,
It a huge bonus if you have a resume – no matter the position. More and more industrial
companies are requesting resumes from our candidates for production jobs. Although, if you are going to do a resume
you need to follow some guidelines. Here are a couple: 1) Always type out your resume, never submit a hand-written
resume 2) Make
absolutely sure there are no grammatical errors – always have someone else read over it 3) Keep it honest and
up to date 4) A resume should not be over 2 pages in length 5) Avoid putting personal information such as social security
number, age, pictures, family information, etc. Those are just a couple of basic tips when putting together a resume. If
you have more detailed questions, contact your staffing coordinator and they would be happy to help you further.
Happy resume writing!

Interview assistance
Dear Alice,
I have a good work history and good skills. I don’t seem to have trouble getting interviewed; but, I never seem to get the job. I really hate interviews. I am not comfortable with people I don’t know and I seem to have a hard time connecting with the interviewer. Someone else seems to get the job offers. What do I need to do differently?
Dear Friend,
You are well on your way to a solution because you admit that you “hate interviews”. Going to an interview with this attitude causes you to be less open and more defensive. The interviewer is not there to eliminated you; he or she is there to see if you are fit with their organization and look for signs that your resume is less than presented or that you may be a problem employee. Your attitude is probably showing through and may be misinterpreted by the interviewer. Remember an experienced interviewer is looking for inconsistencies as well as attitude and “fit”. Posture, attitude, eye contact, confidence, friendliness, openness and direct answers are all important in an interview.
At least find an experienced person to practice interviews. Videotape your interview and see if your body language is sending the wrong information. Practice a few interviews and get your confidence up. Then, on the next interview, psych yourself up and go for the challenge. Look the interviewer in the eye, smile and blow them away with your confidence and personality.
