You’ve probably read the studies that suggest up to 70% of our workforce is disengaged. On top of this, people are leaving their old jobs in droves, at higher rates than we’ve ever seen. But if you can keep your existing employees engaged, you’ll stand a better chance of retaining your existing workforce. How can you improve engagement in your Kentucky warehouse? We have answers that may help.

Best Engagement Tips

Engaged workers are productive workers. They care about the quality of their work. They go a little bit above and beyond to deliver on a project. They work a little harder to take care of the customer. How can you, as the employer, capture this kind of commitment? Here are some tips for engaging the staff in your Kentucky warehouse:

  • Bring everyone together towards one goal. Employees want to have an overarching mission and a set of goals that motivates them. Even have an established job description will help give your workforce a sense of direction. If you have it, your workforce will find their jobs more fulfilling. If you don’t, you simply won’t.
  • Avoid micromanaging your staff. Hire great people, give them training and a good job description and the rest will follow. You don’t have to stand over them to get them to produce. For the most part, employees want to do a good job for you. But hovering over and micromanaging them gives no sense of trust or autonomy that the worker will find motivating.
  • Give them more than a job—give them a career path. You can do this by meeting with your workforce and collaborating with them to create a career roadmap. This will help you promote from within, which will give your employees something to work toward. Employees will begin to see their warehouse job as more of a career, which will be more engaging to them.
  • Provide your employees with training. A comprehensive training program can build on existing skills and create new ones. It will give them a sense of pride in their work. It will also help them climb the ladder into management, with better pay.
  • Use technology to work smarter. Instead of bogging down your workers with mundane and disengaging tasks, create new tasks that will help them work more efficiently. Upgrade your old back office equipment. Give your workforce better tools on the line. Your employees will enjoy the challenge and your business will improve.
  • Set up a system of positive rewards. While your employees may be self-effacing and act like they’re embarrassed by the attention, they really won’t be. Set up departmental contests and reward your top employees with cash or gift cards. Let your best workers have a flexible schedule once a week. Publicly recognizing your employees, teams, and departments, is a great way to engage all of your workers in their jobs and your company.
